JUST WAITING FOR UPMC TO BUY THIS HOSPITAL OUT OR SHUT DOWN.
I'd probably give 5 stars if I actually had a bed every night I was there.
One major problem I ran into in the BHU was the Internet policy. No Internet use allowed at all. This is understandable in most cases, but it actually ended up hurting me. We were shuffled from doctor to doctor, and some would barely explain anything. They'd try to put me on medications that alter your brain chemistry, but some gave me almost no information other than the general purpose and a list of side effects. I refused medication until I could get a friend to look it up and tell me about it over the phone. This probably ended up making my stay last longer than it needed to be.
I spent 2 weeks there this summer as a patient in the behavioral health unit. Most of these one star reviews seem to be people who came to the ER with things that aren't emergencies. I'm reviewing as someone who actually had to spend a lot of time there.
The roommate situation got bad when they put me with a girl who was later deemed unfit to have a roommate. I was back on the floor because of it. For a place that is so expensive, the fact that I had to sleep on the floor multiple times is crazy.
WORST HOSPITAL EVER! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE TO ANYONE. HORRIBLE STAFF AND EVEN WORSE ADMINISTRATION. GOD AWFUL. THE FACT THAT THIS HOSPITAL ISN'T SHUT DOWN BY NOW IS BEYOND ME. THEY DESERVE NO STARS AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BY DHS.
The nurses were kind, helpful, and understanding. A few were way stricter than others, but it came from a place of caring. They all seemed to be great people!
They forced me to sleep on a mattress on the floor of an activity room at one point because they needed to keep an eye on me. They shouldn't force patients to do that! They need to find a better way to keep an eye on people at night.
First off, the food was fantastic and the kitchen staff who take the orders were very patient and friendly. Keep up the good work!
Yesterday I went to the ER in an ambulance suffering from severe lower back/sciatica pain. I broke my tailbone last year from falling off a latter. Due to that fall I developed this sciatica problem. Yesterday it became unbearable. I can't sit, stand, walk, lay down or anything for that matter. I am useless. When I arrived at the hospital yesterday I got looks from nurses and doctors of complete disgust. They profiled me hard. They refused to give me any painkillers even though I was crying cries I've never cried before. The doctor said he didn't believe I was in any pain after X-ray came back with nothing broken. I tried to explain to them it is nerves, not broken bones, and I needed an MRI. They didn't believe me. Doctor said he was having the incredibly patronizing nurse set up my discharge papers and security to escort me out because I was crying too loud and being a disturbance. I'm not sure what to do with ER mistakes and refusal of services. Any advice will be appreciated. I am so saddened by the treatment I received at this ER. And to be clear, this is my second time at this hospital. The first experience there was exceptional. The doctor and nurse were incredibly accommodating and compassionate. This was a singular incident regarding nurse Carla. The doctor refused to give his name and had name tag turned around.
I went there for a physical. After I had spent 45 minutes waiting in the examining room the doctor still hadn't arrived so I got up and left. My time is valuable too, folks.
was taken to this ER when a grinding wheel came apart and damaged my left cornia (yes I was wearing safety glasses) the pain was terrible and both eyes were blurred due to the debrie in my left eye. Without giving me any pain drops or medication they made me fill out forms before anyone would treat me. After 40 minutes a PA looked at my eye and made an attempt to clean the debris out. I told her that she did not get it all, but she argued that she had. She put some numbing drops in my eye and told me to see a specialist the next day. Well the drops wore off before my ride picked me up at the parking lot. Pain got so bad by midnight that I put petroleom jelly on a Q tip pulled my eyelid up and swabbed the left eye myself. A lot of debris came out and I felt immediate relief. I went to the specialist the next day and he removed more debris. It took about 30 days for the cornia to completely heal. I wonder how much of the damage resulted from PA improperly cleaning it at the ER. Don't expect too much from this ER. Go to UPMC its worth driving the extra miles.
