The apartment is clean, the staff is AMAZING

Cons: New neighbors, who pay the same rent as us, were given renovations prior to moving in while we waited for ours even after living here for over a year. Laundry system is COMPLETELY faulty. We were given renovations which caused more problems than solutions. We received "new" appliances (washer and dryer were inoperable and one of the burners on the stove doesn't work) and the renovators left a hole in the wall and mutiple broken bathroom doors. They took the handle off one door, another wouldn't close and they didn't replace them until a maintenance request was submitted. This is in addition to the fact that they left the attic door open and light on after thay left. We have submitted 2 seperate maintenance requests to fix the appliances and, only after the second, somebody came to take the serial numbers for them to contact someone who can fix them. It has been almost a month, as of me submitting this review, of having these broken appliances. This normally wouldnt be a problem, as we can wash dishes by hand and do laundry on site. It costs $5 to obtain a laundry card with no money on it. It costs $3.20 to wash and dry each load of laundry. However, the laundry card machine, which is used to load money on your laundry card is currently broken and has been for more than a week. I put laundry in the wash and went to load more money on the card in order to dry my clothes but I can't. So now, even though my new neighbors have had access to free laundry in their own apartment months before me, I am left with paying a lot of money for wet clothes. It's worthy to mention that the laundry card machine is at the main office instead of the laundry room, for some reason.

Summary: This is a decent place to rent if you have a pet. However, you may have to just deal with having to do your laundry elsewhere if you aren't a new resident. The people at the main office are very friendly and willing to help the best they can. But I suggest looking elsewhere if you do not have a pet.

Pros: Staff is very friendly. Maintenance is prompt (most of the time). Visitor parking is available if you request it in advance. This complex is pet friendly and has a fenced it area for dogs. There are bus stops and grocery stores in close range. This is a nice location away from downtown. Also, the duck pond is pretty cool :)

The homes are not new, and so there are mamy cracks in walls from being painted over. As well, floors may creak. The home is high quality all the same, and looks more beautiful than many of the new, cheaply made homes and apartments in the area.

Briarwood is surrounded by beautiful, natural scenery. The women in the office care about every resident, and know you when you come in. There is true care for each and every resident. The area is family and animal friendly, creating a comfortable atmosphere for all types of people. The bus stops are close, making it easy to get around, while being just far enough from campus and downtown for some peace and quiet. Home is newly renovated, and absolutely beautiful. Very clean when we moved in, which I cannot say other places in the area seem to care much about.

In regards to previous reviews:

These apartments are fine. I have a lightswitch in my room that they haven't been able to fix. They tried doing something with it once and then I was able to control the electricity in my flatmates rooms for some reason.

Living at Briarwood apartments has been one of the most memorable experiences we've had at State College. We've been surely lucky to have chosen this strategic location with professionally property management. We stayed at a one bedroom apartment and then moved to a townhome and both have been functional spaces for us to live in for 4 years. The management is friendly and ready to help whenever needed. The maintenance people are also professional and try their best to attend to our needs especially in emergencies. The pond brought tranquility to the surrounding; the facilities are well maintained; and they had several tenant events during holiday times. The rent may be a bit high, but it is worth it compared to what is being offered. You don't find that in other neighboring complexes. The CATA bus is few steps away. Weis market is also very near and the YMCA is just across the street! It is not far from campus too. The best part of it all is that you don't experience the loud rowdy student events that may be distracting especially if you are graduate students or a family.

Parking is simple, and parking rules are straight forward.
