The State College office ladies are fantastic. I really like how Betsy went out of her way to help me get into a my new place. She ROCKS!!!
While the living is nice at BCC, the lack of communication from PMI (with residents, other companies, etc.) is enough to make me steer ANYONE from renting with them. I can't speak to BCC specifically anymore since they are now under a new company, but PMI as a whole was extremely unhelpful in every aspect of the process. I highly recommend looking for a different company or private landlord if you value communication.
Nothing but problems with this company. I will keep this as short as possible. I signed my 12 month lease back in April 2016 with the (at the time) manager of Blue Course Commons. The lease was to start in August 2016 and run until August 2017. The manager was very helpful and accommodating with my limited availability to move in, and set my move in date for a Saturday in August. Fast forward to that Saturday - I showed up with all of my stuff and no one was there. I called the weekend help line at PMI and they basically told me they couldn't help me and that I would need to wait until Monday. I'm sure they wouldn't have covered the hotel bill for the two nights I would need, since I am from out of town, so I wasn't sure what they expected me to do. Thank god the maintenance man happened to come to the complex and was able to get in touch with the new manager to let me move in.
Then came utilities. I put both electric and gas in my name (as I was instructed to do) and when the first bills came, I paid them through their respective companies. But when I logged into my PMI portal, I saw that there was another electric bill that I owed through PMI. I was confused as to why I was being asked to pay through both the electric company AND PMI. I paid but then took the bills out of my name because I now assumed they would be paid through the PMI portal. That was a premature action on my part, I'll admit that. The BCC manager ended up explaining to me that the first bill or so goes through BCC and then from there it would be paid through the electric company. This was never explained to me prior to this day. Wouldn't anyone who is being charged twice through two different companies question why? Again, no communication until very late in the game.
I began to get my things out the car and was told I was being moved into a different house than the one I was originally told (the one that was on my lease). There was no explanation given as to why my house was being switched. I had already been matched with and spoken to my original roommates but was now being moved into a house with random people. This was not the issue I had - the issue was the lack of communication on the company's part to let me know my housing would be switched. I had never been informed of this from the day I signed my lease until the day I moved in. PMI had a solid 4 months to inform me of this decision, and had they let me know, I would have been okay with it.
Betsie was very helpful in securing the apartment. Kristen was extremely helpful in showing the apartment and answering all of the questions my family had. Looking forward to it.
When I moved into the new house, the deadbolt did not work and the front window did not lock. They ended up fixing both about a week later.
BCC was recently sold to another company, College Town Communities. They let us know through a letter slipped through our door. No issue with that. My issue now comes from their lack of communication to CTC. When I first signed my lease, BCC was running a special where you got 1 month free of rent. I could choose to take the one month free or deduct the free month over my 12 month lease (each month). I chose the latter. I paid my rent yesterday (the same amount I have been paying the entire time) for the first time through the new company. Today, I received a notice saying I did not pay the full amount. I called BCC under CTC and the woman (very nice and helpful) asked me to explain why I was paying $46 less than what my rent was supposed to be. I explained to her the discount I received and she said they had no knowledge of this, that she would speak with management about it and get back to me today.
The best customer service I have received looking for apartments at PSU and the cleanest! Betsy and Kristen were beyond attentive and helpful. I highly recommend PMI to any parent looking for peace of mind concerning living conditions for their child.
Property Management, Inc. represents everything a professional property management company should and some. As far as I'm concerned Kristen Dzvonyicsak and Betsie Feighner are the best in the property management business. Rest assured you will be well taken care of at PMI from the time you pick up the phone to call them to signing your lease agreement. Penn State parents look no further for a company that will meet or exceed your rental needs. They make the process seamless and painless!
